2020 demolition derby rules:
If vehicle does not pass inspection or driver is unwilling to change vehicle to pass inspection absolutely no refunds!!!
All vehicles must be at the event in time for the Driver’s Meeting. Gates will be closed at this time. (No exceptions and you are not entitled to a refund).
Entry forms must be received by or before Driver’s Meeting. You may fax, mail, or turn in day of event.
An official for any just reason may refuse you the right to race.
Vehicles are subject to re-inspection before any prize money is handed out. There is a $100.00 cash protest fee that only the driver can make. The protest has to be made directly after the event.
JUDGES DECISIONS are final!!!
There will be no building of vehicles at the derby arena (build them at home please).
All divers must have a fire extinguisher in their pit area.
Closed toe shoes will be worn by all in pit area.
A liability waiver will be signed by all crew members.
NO ALCOHOL in the pits, if anyone is caught with alcohol, they will be disqualified, this includes their pit crew.
DO NOT hit the driver’s door! Sometimes this happens, but if it looks intentional or careless, you will be disqualified. Don’t use your door as a shield; it may cause you to be disqualified.
NO SANDBAGGING. (Determined by Track Officials). If a vehicle is found to be sandbagging, the vehicle will be marked with a Bulls eye Target. This signifies to the other drivers who the sandbaggers are. If the driver is caught a second time, he or she will be disqualified. A yellow flag will be used for a warning.
Team Driving, where two or more vehicles run in a pack and work on the rest of the field but do not work on each other, will not be allowed. This is grounds for disqualification.
NO INTENTIONALLY hitting a non-flagged vehicle or pushing them out of the way.
You are given 2 minutes to make a hit. Vehicle has to be running and able to make a hit either in forward or reverse. (MUST BE AT LEAST HALF A CARS LENGTH)
Drivers must stay in their safety belts at all times during competition. If a driver removes belt during the heat, he/she is automatically disqualified, except at an official’s okay or fire.
Drivers must wear a D.O.T. approved crash helmet (no add-on chin guards). Eye protection must be worn at all times during the race. Neck collars recommended. Long sleeved shirts and long pants must be worn. No open-toed shoes. Fire suit is recommended.
There will be only one vehicle per driver. All drivers must sign a waiver of liability.
If your vehicle is rolled on its side or all the way over during the race and is pushed back over by another vehicle, you may continue to race, however, no person shall enter the arena to push your vehicle over. An official can declare it out of action for any reason they see fit.
No outside help from another driver, pit member or audience will be allowed, i.e., throwing a can of ether into a car for anyone.
If a vehicle pass two tires over the arena boundary line (concrete jersey), you will be disqualified unless you can remove your vehicle by its own power or another vehicle knocks you loose and you can make your required hits in the two-minute time frame.
The top three vehicles in the final heat will be subject to a re-inspection before the prize money is awarded.
(WE WILL BE STOPPING THE EVENT TO CLEAR THE TRACK OF BROKEN AXLES,BUMPERS THAT HAVE FALLEN OFF ECT… WE DONT WANT ANYONE GETTING HURT SO PLEASE PAY ATTENTION)
PREPARATION:
Any year Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) frame and body model of passenger cars or station wagon can be run. You can not enter Sport Utility (SUV), El Caminos, Rancheros, pickups, convertibles, four-wheel drives, small cars (except mini heats), no 1973 or older Chrysler Imperials.
No reinforcements allowed other than welding. Any metal added to reinforce the car is illegal in the building of the car except on the driver’s door. You may put a protective bar on the driver’s door, but it cannot extend more than 6” in front of or past the rear of the door. (It can be inside or outside).
All glass, plastic, and pot metal must be removed. Nothing may remain in the bottom of the doors or trunk. All outside hardware must be removed (door handles, mirrors, chrome molding, headlight buckets, grilles (including metal ones), lens covers and fiber glass front ends. This also includes molding clips.
No added weight to the car except the weld. No packing in the trunk, doors, or frame.
All flammable materials inside the car must be removed (carpet, head liner, door panels, ECT). Door panel or padding may be left on the driver’s door only for protection.
Front seats must be securely mounted to the floor and must have a seat belt.
CAGE: (BUILD THE CAGE TO PROTECT YOURSELF) You may put any (3″-6″ O.D) metal material to make a box around the driver with a 6”x6”x1/4” thick plate on each end of the pipe behind the seat. It must be directly behind the seat and cannot be farther than 8” behind the seat. (A HALO IS MANDATORY BUT CAN ONLY BE WELDED TO THE SEAT BAR AND 6″ ON THE CENTER OF THE ROOF TO HELP KEEP THE ROOF FROM COLLAPSING IN THE EVENT OF A ROLLOVER)
A bar up to 2” can be bolted or welded from the cowl to the roof. A minimum of 3 bars in the windshield area will be required. (YOU MAY BUILD A GAS TANK PROTECTOR BUT IT MUST BE MAXIMUM OF 2X2 AND 28″ WIDE AND 4″ AWAY FROM THE PACKAGE TRAY “SEE DIAGRAM BELOW” ABSOLUTELY NO DOWN BARS OR KICKERS ALLOWED)
There must not be anything attached to the trunk, or hood of the car except for decoration for the Most Popular Car Award ($100.00). After the contest, anything that was attached will have to be removed.
You must remove the anti-freeze and recover the Freon from the car before entering the parking lot or the arena.
(DO NOT PAINT YOUR FRAMES. YOU WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY LOADED AND NOT BE ABLE TO COMPETE)(IF YOU HAVE PAINTED THE FRAME PREVIOUSLY YOU HAVE TIME TO CLEAN IT OFF)
(FRAMES:) ABSOLUTELY NO WELDING OF ANY KIND TO THE FRAME RAILS BEHIND THE CORE SUPPORT OTHER THAN SPECIFIED.ABSOLUTELY NO BUTTER WELDING,SEAM WELDING, OR PINNING OF THE FRAME. WE WILL HAVE A FRAME SCOPE AND IF IN QUESTION WE WILL DRILL YOUR FRAME. YOU MAY NOTCH THE REAR FRAME. NO PRE-BENDING ALLOWED, NO HUMP PLATES) (NO TILTING ALLOWED)
FUEL PUMPS:
Electric fuel pumps are allowed, but a safety shut off switch must be placed on the upper left side of the dash. (MAKE SURE IT ISN’T GOING TO GET HIT BY ANOTHER CAR AND TURNED OFF) This is to allow access to the switch by the officials in case of fire.
FIRES:
One fire per heat will be put out. A second fire per heat will cause disqualification.
BRAKES:
All cars must exhibit the ability to stop before entering the arena. If the cars loses braking ability, the car is subject to disqualification.
ENGINES:
Any engine may be used in any car, but must be mounted within 4” of the original motor. You may cut a hole in the firewall to accommodate the engine BUT MUST BE COVERED BACK UP. IF USING METAL IT CANNOT BE THICKER THAN THE ORIGINAL FIREWALL MATERIAL.
You may cut a hole to accommodate the distributor, but it must be covered to prevent a fire hazard.
Holes left in the firewall by removing the dash and/or heater core that are bigger than 6”x6” must be covered with sheet metal. (NO THICKER THAN THE ORIGINAL FIREWALL SHEET METAL.)
No holes will be allowed in the floor of the car except to accommodate the transmission shifter, fuel lines, trans cooler lines or wiring.
No crank shaft protection. Distributor caps may be secured, but no protection.
(LOWER CRADLE IS ALLOWED BUT CAN ONLY BE ATTACHED TO FACTORY MOTOR MOUNT TABS AND LOWER BOLT HOLES ON THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE. CRADLES MUST BE MOUNTED TO WITHIN 4″ OF THE FACTORY MOTOR MOUNTS NO EXTRA METAL MAY BE ADDED TO THE FRAME RAILS TO ACHIEVE CRADLE MOUNTING)
DOORS/BODY:
Doors, hoods, and trunks must be securely held in place.
(YOU MAY TUCK, OR CANOE THE TRUNK BUT DECK-LID MUST REMAIN 12″ OFF THE FLOOR. 12″ HOLE MUST BE CUT SO WE CAN SEE INSIDE THE TRUNK. ABSOLUTELY NO WEDGING (TRUCKS ARE ALLOWED TO WEDGE) AND QUARTERS MUST REMAIN IN UPRIGHT POSITION)
(YOU MAY USE ALLTHREAD 1″ MAX IN THE HOOD AND THE TRUNK BUT MAY NOT BE MORE THAN 1″ PAST THE BACK OF THE CORE SUPPORT AND NO FURTHER FORWARD THAN THE SECOND BODY MOUNT. (REAR) ALLTHREAD CANNOT GO THROUGH THE FRAME MUST BE WELDED TO THE SIDE.)
Driver’s door must be painted in contrasting color.
Your car number must be at least 12” and be painted on each side of the car, as well as on the roof so judges and timers can see them. If two cars have the same number, the car that had their entry first, keeps the number and the other car must change theirs.
A number plate, no less than 8” in height, can be attached to the roof of the car for the car number to be displayed. Paint number in all three sides. (highly recommended).
No welding bodies to the frame (INCLUDING INNER FENDERS). You can remove the body pucks. (WE WILL BE CHECKING FOR THIS )
You can add one bolt per side from body to frame before the rear hump. You may chain rear humps.
SECURING:
One of the following must be used to secure your hood, trunk, and doors:
WELDING:
Body seams around the doors, hoods, and trunks may be welded. Motor mounts, steering columns, transmission mounts, may be welded. Each seam front to back can be welded the total length. 3/8” cold roll steel, 3/8” rebar, or 1 ½”x 1/8” flat strap may be used to weld your seams. THE LARGEST GAP YOU CAN FILL IS 3/8”, except driver’s doors, which can be reinforced. (ABSOLUTELY NO INNER SEAM WELDING ALLOWED YOU WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED)( YOU MAY FOLD YOUR HOOD TO YOUR BUMPER BUT YOU MAY WELD YOUR HOOD TO YOUR BUMPER)
CHAINS:
3/8” chain is allowed to secure hoods, trunks, and doors. A single wrap of 3/8” chain may be used to hold the bumper on both sides. If you chain the hood, you must chain all four corners.
BOLTS:
No more than 6 bolts per hood or trunk. BOLTS MUST BE NO BIGGER THAN (3/4″ X 8″) ( YOU ARE ALLOWED A 4″ WASHER ON TOP AND BOTTOM OF THE HOOD BOLTS) (THEY CAN BE PLACED ANYWHERE WITHIN 4 INCHES OF THE EDGE ALONG THE FENDERS) (NOT THE FRONT OR BACK OF THE HOOD)
YOU MAY WELD THE HOOD/ FENDER SEAM ONLY. YOU MAY USE ALLTHREAD 1″ MAX DIRECTLY IN FRONT OR BEHIND THE CORE SUPPORT NO FURTHER THAN 1″ IN FRONT OR BEHIND AND GO THROUGH THE FACTORY CORE SUPPORT MOUNT OR WELD THE ALLTHREAD TO THE FRAME ONLY. YOU MAY USE A 4″ WASHER ON THE TOP OF THE HOOD FOR YOUR ALLTHREAD
IF YOU GO THROUGH THE FACTORY MOUNT YOU MAY NOT WELD THE ALLTHREAD TO THE FRAME IT MUST BE BOLTED ON THE BOTTOM. YOU CANNOT WELD THE ALLTHREAD TO THE CORE SUPPORT.)
(A HOLE MUST BE CUT IN YOUR HOOD LARGE ENOUGH THAT IN CASE OF A FIRE WE ARE ABLE TO GET TO IT)
RADIATORS:
Radiators must stay is stock position. No cooling of engine through heater core. (No added coolant capacity). You can build your own radiators, but not bigger than 24”x24”x3”.
Radiator cannot be welded to frame or radiator support. Must be bolted to the core support only.
TRANSMISSION:
Auxiliary external transmission coolers will be allowed. (PLEASE MOUNT THESE WITH YOUR SAFETY IN MIND)
(ABSOLUTELY NO STEEL BELLS, NO TRANS PROTECTORS OR BRACES, TRANSMISSION CROSS MEMBERS MUST BE IN FACTORY LOCATION YOU ARE ALLOWED A 2X2 SQUARE TUBE FOR THE CROSS MEMBER BUT IT MAY ONLY TOUCH THE 2 EXTERIOR FRAME RAILS AND TRANS MOUNT NOTHING ELSE.)
GAS TANKS:
Original gas tanks must be removed from the car.
You must have your gas tanks inside the car. The maximum size is 6.5 gallons. It must be securely mounted to the floor behind the front seat. It cannot move when shaken. It may be metal or plastic, but it must not leak. If it is a marine tank, it must have fittings to attach the lines. Vent tubes must exit the passenger compartment through the floor. NO CUTTING HOLES IN THE LID AND SHOVING A HOSE THROUGH THE HOLES. NO EXCEPTIONS!!
(IF YOU ARE RUNNING METHANOL OR ALCOHOL PLEASE INFORM THE OFFICIALS AS IT BURNS CLEAR INSTEAD OF ORANGE SO THEY KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR)
BATTERY:
No more than ONE 12-volt battery may be used in the car at one time. If battery is located inside the passenger compartment, it must be fully enclosed and securely mounted to the floor on the right front side. You cannot mount the battery in the back by the gas tank.
FRONT BUMPERS
You can square the from no more than 1 inch in front of the core support. Can use any passenger car bumper welded to its self NO PACKING OR STUFFING THE BUMPER or a 5x5x3/16 of square can be used open ended…collapsing and welding of bumper shocks allowed. Can use 1 per side 4x4x1/4 angle 6 inches long to mount bumper
